Remind Me To Be Grateful!

Today, I am grateful for the AMAZING people in my life. I will tell you why but let me start with these rambling thoughts first:

What a lovely night I had! First, Jordan and I were invited to my bosses' house for dinner with them and their 6 adorable children, followed by the seven year old's soccer game. It was quite enjoyable. We then had to go back to Jordan's parent's house to pick up his car. He introduced me to his dog and we played a little basketball in the driveway. His family was gone so I didn't think much of it until I noticed him delaying and looking at every car that drove by. He was clearly waiting for his family. I didn't say anything and laughed to myself. I decided that I could do it for him; I could overcome fears and stop avoiding meeting his family.

It's amazing how someone so outgoing as me could be so nervous and so scared to meet such nice people. It was an interesting experience for me. I may be a pretty insecure person but there's not a person who meets me who would ever get that impression. However, meeting Jordan's family apparently humbled me quite a bit :)

Jordan is amazing...that's all I have to say. I told him last night about all my fears and how not having a family to love and support me weighs on me more than ever lately. I feel like it's been shoved in my face a lot this past week but not intentionally by anyone, of course. Jordan has an amazing family, my friends have parents, the girl who cut my hair was telling me that her parents helped her pay for everything this semester because she made a mistake and didn't save money...I don't have any of this and sometimes it's hard. I don't need parents for the physical needs..I need to be loved, I need advice, I need to be cared for...I need a family.

Anyway..back to why I am grateful... As I was talking to Jordan about this last night, he asked me what I would write about in my blog if I was to write it that moment. I understood this question as a reminder to be grateful and a reminder to recognize all the wonderful ways that the Lord has compensated this void in my life. He sure has given me some wonderful people to love and to love me. For this, I am so grateful. I may not have a mom to love me and give me advice or a dad to protect me and love me for who I am but I have amazing bosses who tell me how it is and look out for me. Moms of friends who love me like their own and take off from work just to take care of me after surgeries. A mission president and his wife who are always there for me. I have friends who are there for me and give me the opportunity to learn and grow in relationships. I have a ward family and a bishop who loves me. A past Bishop and his wife who mean the world to me and who would do anything for me. I am blessed with an amazing boyfriend who invites me to be my best self and loves me for me. A dog who will always be my true eternal companion ;) And many, many, MANY more people in my life who love me and who I am blessed to love.

I may not always make the best decisions in relationships as I feel like I am still learning to develop them as I would have learned had I grown up in a loving family--with a mom who was there--with a dad who cared...but I feel so blessed to have so many amazing friends and people in my life to help me along this journey. I may not have a traditional family but I have more people in my life than I bet most do and for this I am grateful! Thank you Jordan for helping me remember this ;)

More than anything and most importantly, I have the love and protection of my Heavenly Father and His son, Jesus Christ. Christ suffered for all pain I have, do and will ever feel. He knows what I am feeling and I know that because of His Atoning sacrifice, I will get through this and I will be better for it. I am so grateful for that knowledge! I was really sick and a friend put a picture of Christ above my head to look at. Over those couple days, my testimony of the Atonement grew and grew as I came to realize that He did not just die for my sins. He suffered for every pain, sickness, disappointment, sadness, hurt, confusion and illness I will ever experience. I learned that we will all have pains and sicknesses of many kinds but that we can truly be happy and serve others as we go through them because we know that better days are to come. Blessings are to come! How grateful am I for this knowledge and for a boyfriend who chooses to bear his testimony to me of this truth during my hard times. I am blessed and I love you all!

I Love to See the Temple

It has been over a month since I have posted....I hope this doesn't mean that I am ungrateful :) I guess I have just been busy doing the things and being with the people for which I am most grateful.

It's hard to decide what I am grateful for today because a lot has happened recently and I am grateful for so much. If I can sit here and think of so many things and have a hard time choosing just one, this blog has succeeded for myself.

Because it has been on my mind a lot lately, I will choose to write about my gratitude for the Temple today. I recently have been able to go to the Temple and also experience a brand new one being dedicated unto the Lord.

For those of you reading this and wondering what I am talking about, the Temple is a place unlike any other place upon the Earth. It is the Lord's house. It is a sacred place, set apart from the world, where the worldly things do not intrude. It is a place we go to worship our Father in Heaven and learn more of Him and from Him. It is place to feel peace and happiness and close to our Lord.

I am so grateful for the opportunity that I have to enter the Temple and to feel close to Him as I am able to let go of the stresses of the world and receive His guidance for the biggest and smallest questions I have about my life and what it is he would have me do.

I am not only grateful to be inside the Temple, however. Something can definitely be said for the way the Temple and the desire to enter the Temple can change your life for the good and help you make the right decisions when not even inside. When I think about the Temple, I can't help but look at my life and see where I am at and what I can improve. The Temple really stands for so many things and especially as a symbol to change our lives and become closer to the Lord.

We are fortunate to live in a time where there are so many of the Lord's Temples upon the Earth. Here are just a few of the ones that I have had the privilege to see or enter:

The Atonement and Change...

So, the whole point of this blog was to remember the things I am grateful for, especially when things were tough. Well I failed! As soon as things got a little tough, I forgot to be grateful.

However, one of the great things about life is the ability and the gift to start over. Tonight, I am grateful for that.

I have made so many mistakes and I will continue to make many more, but I have really learned how changes can become so personal and can really give you a whole new life.

We will make mistakes and people will judge us but I really think that it is important for us to realize that one mistake in our life does not define who we are or who we are going to become. I think it is also important that we remember that about other people.

I am so grateful for the people around me who have stood by my side through mistakes, learning and changes. I have some amazing people in my life.

What I am most grateful for, however, is the Atonement of Jesus Christ. Through this sacrifice and only through this sacrifice, can we make permanent changes and really overcome any and all mistakes we have made and will make. Only He understands what we have gone through and who we can become. Only He truly knows the effort we have put forth and the desires of our heart.

I am so grateful for the Atonement of my Savior, Jesus Christ, and the clarity He brings me and the opportunities He grants me. How blessed are we to have a Heavenly Father who sacrificed His son for our good. Life is good, we just have to take advantage of it.

I really like this quote taken from the General Conference talk from Elder Holland in April of 2012:

"However late you think you are, however many chances you think you have missed, however many mistakes you feel you have made or talents you think you don’t have, or however far from home and family and God you feel you have traveled, I testify that you have not traveled beyond the reach of divine love. It is not possible for you to sink lower than the infinite light of Christ’s Atonement shines."-Elder Holland

I like this song...or at least the idea of it

Junior is not so Junior

Anyone who knows me is probably wondering why I haven't already posted about Junior (my dog) 18 times already. I am surprised myself :)

Sometimes I wonder if anyone loves their dog more. I am so grateful for him...always! Last night, Jordan and I took him to an open park. He wanders around a bit but listens so well. The best part is the amount of kids who were all over him! He handled it like a champ. His tail never wags faster than when kids are around and he is so good with them. They sit on him, tug on him and do everything they can to annoy him and he loves every second of it.

What a blessing he is! I don't care if he is only a dog, he is truly a best friend and a loyal one at that. He's moved around, I left on a mission and yet no one has loved me more. He listens so well, loves people, is calm and has a very funny personality. I couldn't be more grateful for my Junior who is a bit bigger than a junior :)

Such a Handsome Boy!

Isn't there a poem about footprints? Were they talking about Junior's? :)

Are You Ready for Some Football...

I am soooo grateful for football!! Is there anything else to say? I am so glad that football season is starting because I love everything about it--the sounds, the hits, the weather (fall is coming), My Raiders, traditions...everything.

My friend Rachel and I went to watch the Raiders first preseason game last night. It was a very boring game but a real fan gets through preseason with a smile!

But Let Him Ask in Faith, Nothing Wavering

Well, I haven't posted in a few days but I think it's because I have been a little too busy really enjoying the new things that I am grateful for. Maybe they will be a post someday :)

Today I am SO grateful for prayer! I was so sick all last night and was only able to sleep for about 40 minutes. It was very miserable to say the least and as I did my best to get through the morning, I sent a text to several good friends and just simply asked them to help me in prayer that I might be able to get through the day.

The title of this post is twofold for me. It took a lot of strength for me to ask my friends for help and I think they knew it but something can be said for righteous friends who answer a call to help in any matter. I also relearned the meaning of praying with a faith that can't be denied; to truly know that He would hear and answer me.

I felt the power of those prayers today and accomplished more than I thought I could. I know that He hears our prayers and is excited to allow us to literally feel His power so that we may know and understand that when we exercise our faith in Him, in any way, He will always back us up.

I think He knew exactly what I needed today and I am so grateful for the friends who provided extra prayers so that I may feel that.

“It matters not our circumstance, be we humble or arrogant, poor or rich, free or enslaved, learned or ignorant, loved or forsaken, we can address Him. We need no appointment. Our supplication can be brief or can occupy all the time needed. It can be an extended expression of love and gratitude or an urgent plea for help. He has created numberless cosmos and populated them with worlds, yet you and I can talk with Him personally, and He will ever answer.”-Elder Richard G. Scott

Companions for a Transfer, Friends for Eternity...

This post will mostly be pictures because I really feel like pictures say it all in this case. I am SOOOO grateful for my mission buddies. I love them so much and there is always just such a strong feeling of love for everyone and from everyone whenever we are together. It's so great to live in Provo and be so close to the Viking parties, the pizza parties, the homecomings, the reunions and our other random times that we get together. These people are the best and make me want to be my best. So grateful for each and every one of them...
